James W. “Bill” Rutherford

James W. “Bill” Rutherford, 75, passed away 8:20 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at his residence with his family by side.

Bill was born May 1, 1934, in Bush to John R. and Pearl (Hester) Rutherford. He married Linda (Shelton) Rutherford Dec. 24, 1954, in Hurst. Together they shared 54 years of marriage.

Bill was retired. He worked at Maytag in Herrin for 43 years. He was a member of the I.A.M. Union. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served his country honorably. He was a member of Royalton Apostolic Church. He was also an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Rutherford of Bush; three sons and daughters-in-law, Rev. Jim and Laura Rutherford of Hurst, William and Joy Rutherford of Fort Worth, Texas, and David and Kim Rutherford of Hurst; six grandchildren, Kristen Hargrove and husband Jason of Burleson, Texas, Tiffany Rutherford of Fort Worth, Texas, and James, Kayla, Jason and Kaitlyn Rutherford of Hurst; one great-grandson, Jason Tyler Hargrove of Burleson, Texas; six sisters, Janice Toler and husband Bill of Anna, Norma Koren and husband John of Royalton, Beverly Jackson of Deerfield, Fla., MaryAnn Cosimi and husband Roger of Spring Valley, Sharon Rutherford of Deerfield, Fla., and Debra Karney and husband Kevin of Apopka, Fla.; one brother, Thomas Rutherford and wife Marcie of Boca Raton, Fla.; brother-in-law Bob Shelton and wife Norma of Centralia; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Thomas Rutherford; and a brother, John R. Rutherford.   

Funeral services took place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with Rev. Donald Maas officiating. Interment followed at Blairsville Cemetery. Military rites were accorded by American Legion post 664 of Hurst and members of the Illinois National Guard Military Honors Team.
