Veterans honored

<p class="p1">Veterans Day was commemorated on Wednesday, Nov. 11, to honor the many men and women who have served, and are serving, in the nation's armed forces.</p><p class="p1">Shawnee School District No. 84 hosted a program Friday afternoon, Nov. 6, to honor veterans. The program was held in the gymnasium at Shawnee Junior-Senior High School.</p><p class="p1">The program included a presentation of flags by the Anna VFW. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by pre-kindergarten students. A presentation titled "What is a Veteran?" was given by elementary school principal Amy Reynolds.</p><p class="p1">Patriotic music was presented by students in kindergarten through 5th grade.  A flag folding ceremony was conducted by 4th grade students, who were accompanied by the Student Government League. Recognition of veterans was by Colby Kuberski. Patriotic music was presented by the Shawnee band. Patriotic music was presented on bagpipes by Paul Thompson.</p><p class="p1">The program also included presentation of letters and drawings by students to veterans.</p>

Students in kindergarten through 5th grade sang patriotic songs during a program to honor veterans which was held last Friday afternoon at Shawnee Junior-Senior High School.



Luke Choate and Allie Myers conducted a flag folding ceremony as part of Friday's program. The program to honor the veterans was held in the gymnasium at the Wolf Lake school.



A medley of patriotic music was presented on bagpipes by Paul Thompson.



An honor guard from the Veterans of Foreign Wars Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 in Anna presented the nation's colors.
