Flood warning continues for rivers More than 2 inches of rain falls during past week

Rain and cool temperatures highlighted Union County's weather during the past week.

Rainfall for the week totalled more than 2 inches in Anna.

The rain came as a flood warning continued along the Mississippi and Ohio rivers in Southern Illinois.

The National Weather Service, NWS, forecast office in Paducah reported Tuesday that river levels in the area were continuing to rise. Crests are expected by Saturday morning.

The Mississippi River at Cape Girardeau was at 36.0 feet at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Flood stage is 32.0 feet.

NWS reported that the Mississippi at Cape Girardeau is expected to crest at 36.5 feet on Saturday.

Meanwhile, more rain is in the forecast for the area.

The NWS forecast at midweek called for a 90 percent chance of rain Thursday, today, and a 60 percent chance of rain tonight.

More rain is in the forecast for Saturday and Sunday.

High temperatures are expected to be in the 50s and 60s through Sunday.

Rainfall in Anna measured 2.65 inches during the past week. The total included .15 of an inch March 21 and 2.50 inches March 22.
