Area sees heavy rain, flash flood watch this week
<p class="p1">The Union County area early this week was included in a flash flood watch which was issued for parts of Southern Illinois, Southeast Missouri and Western Kentucky.</p><p class="p1">The National Weather Service in Paducah issued the flash flood watch for late Monday night through Wednesday morning.</p><p class="p1">The weather service warned that a large scale storm system was expected to bring very wet weather to the region.</p><p class="p1">Rainfall amounts in the area were expected to be in the range of 3 to 5 inches.</p><p class="p1">The weather service said that such accumulations of rain were a cause for concern because they could overwhelm storm drains and gutters, especially if they had not be cleared of falling leaves and other debris.</p><p class="p1">Heavy rain fell Monday night and early Tuesday morning in the Union County area. </p><p class="p1">A total of 1.66 inches of rain had been recorded in Jonesboro through early Tuesday morning. Another round of heavy rain was in the forecast for Tuesday night.
