Courthouse landscaping work continues

<p class="p1">Work continued last week on a landscaping project which is underway at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.</p><p class="p1">The work was done Wednesday morning, Sept. 30. The landscaping project is being spearheaded by the Anna-Jo Garden Club with a wide range of community support.</p><p class="p1">Approximately 20 people gathered on the courthouse grounds to help with the landscaping work.</p><p class="p1">Members of the Anna-Jo Garden Club managed the planting with the assistance of courthouse custodians Derek Pender and Adam Sherwood, both of whom handled much of the preparation work in the days leading up to the event. </p><p class="p1">Former courthouse project manager Mike Smith assisted, along with many members of the public. </p><p class="p1">Union County Commissioner Bobby Toler Jr., who has acted as the county’s point man on the project, also assisted.</p><p class="p1">The work included the laying of mulch and planting of some 40 to 50 plants, bushes and trees in the ground along the front of the courthouse.</p><p class="p1">The Zeta Psi Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, one of the major donor organizations which is supporting the project, was represented at the event by president Linda Warren, vice president Shirley West, secretary Joyce Linson, treasurer Nancy Gunn and member Sue Abernathy.</p><p class="p1">The Union County Board of Commissioners has voiced its appreciation to the Anna-Jo Garden Club for its leadership in the landscaping project.</p><p class="p1">The county board also voiced appreciation to all of those who took time out of their busy schedules to assist on the morning of planting.</p><p class="p1">The project is completely funded by donations and is being managed by the Anna-Jo Garden Club. </p><p class="p1">As funds are collected, additional work will continue on the project. </p><p class="p1">Donations are being recognized in three categories.</p><p class="p1">Perennials: Donations under $100.</p><p class="p1">Shrubs: Donations of $100 to $199.</p><p class="p1">Trees and memorials: Donations of $200 and more.</p><p class="p1">Donations can be made at Capaha Bank, which is located at 358 S.
