Election filing set to begin
<p class="p1">Filing is set to begin Monday morning, Nov. 23, for the 2016 election campaign in Union County.</p><p class="p1">Candidates will be filing their nominating petitions starting at 8 a.m. Monday in the office of Union County Clerk Terry Bartruff. Filing continues through Nov. 30.</p><p class="p1">The clerk's office is at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro.</p><p class="p1">A primary election is planned in March 2016. Next year's general election will be in November.</p><p class="p1">Five county-wide offices will be on the ballot next year, including:</p><p class="p1">•State's attorney; the office now is held by Tyler R. Edmonds.</p><p class="p1">•Circuit clerk; the incumbent is Lorraine Moreland.</p><p class="p1">•Coroner; the incumbent is Phil Hileman.</p><p class="p1">•Two positions on the Union County Board of Commissioners. Incumbents whose terms expire next year include Richard Cunningham (the current board chairman) and Dale Russell.</p><p class="p1">Edmonds, Moreland, Hileman and Cunningham are Democrats. Russell is a Republican.</p><p class="p1">Moreland and Cunningham have announced that they will not be seeking reelection in 2016.</p>
