Curtis E. ‘Corky’ Hartline

Curtis E. “Corky” Hartline, 82, of Carterville, and formerly of Cobden, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016, at Memorial Hospital in Carbondale.

He was born on Feb. 15, 1934, in Mountain Glen, the son of Francis and Mae Hunsaker Hartline.

He married Jane Griffith on July 6, 1989, in Paducah.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Hartline of Carterville; one daughter, Debbie (Marc) Wade of Carterville; three sons, Steve (Lisa) Hartline of Anna, Danny (Charlotte) Hartline of Cobden and David Hartline of Cobden; grandchildren Shane (Andrea) Wade, Sean (Jennifer) Wade, Matthew (Carrie) Hartline, Beau (Holly) Hartline, Danielle Hartline, Alina Hartline, Jenna Hartline, Colbey Hartline and Conner Hartline; great-grandchildren, Conner Wade, Hudson Wade, Jackson Wade, Olivia Wade, Lillie Hartline, Drake Hartline and Aiden Hartline.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Leota Swafford and Myrtle Bech; and by one brother, Jim Hartline.

He was retired from Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center in Anna, where he worked for many years as a firefighter. He was able to take 10 vacation days the month of November to duck hunt, and he did, every day. He served in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959, spending 18 months in Korea.

He loved music, he helped the boys form a band, there was always music on the hill. He had a lot of friends, from the man in the suit to the next door neighbor in bib overalls. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Cobden. He was saved in 1952 at the Immanuel Baptist Church.

He was a life member of the Coal Belt Fire Fighter Association and a life member of Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, today, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden, with Pastor Ed Falgout and Matthew Hartline officiating. Military rites will be conducted at the funeral home by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna.

Friends can call after 9:30 a.m. and until the service hour at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, today, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden.

Memorials can be made to the Fresenius Medical Care Dialysis Center. Curtis received dialysis here for the last 17 years.
