Norbert J. Cerny
Norbert J. Cerny, 88, of Cobden, died at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, June 18, 2009, at City Care Center in Anna.
He was born on Sept. 14, 1920, in Cobden, the son of John M. and Elizabeth Bigler Cerny.
He married Betty Lee Nebughr on April 18, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden.
Mr. Cerny is survived by his wife, Betty Cerny of Cobden; five children, Mike (Jaylene) Cerny of Anna, Steve (Beth) Cerny of Anna, Martha (Paul) Wackenhut of Blackfoot, Idaho, Tony Cerny and Tom Cerny, both of Cobden; one brother, Richard Cerny of Cobden; two sisters, Dorothy Zinn of Breese and Catherine Gibbs of Cobden; eight grandchildren, Jared, Rachel, Brooke, Mark, Adam and Aaron Cerny, and Lizzie and Jacob Wackenhut; other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and by two brothers, Hugh and Lawrence Cerny.
Mr. Cerny was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden. He was a past board member with the Union County Farm Bureau; board member of the Illinois Polled Hereford Association; past school board member of Cobden Unit School District; and a past member of the Union County Cattlemen Association and the Illinois Beef Association.
He was a retired farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Funeral services for Mr. Cerny were at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cobden with Father Federico Higuera officiating. Interment was in St. Joseph Cemetery in Cobden.
Rosary services were at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
