Nothing more than a hoax

Are we losing touch with common sense? We are bombarded with doom and gloom articles about earth-destroying holes in the sky and climate change brought about by human induced global warming to a point where we have been panicked into spending billions of dollars without knowing if it is real.

A prime example was the featured article by Diana Yates in the June 22 Monday's Pub reporting on the results of a study made by 13 U.S. government science agencies, major universities and research institutes that concluded that extreme weather, drought and heavy rain are expected to continue into the future, all brought about by human activity.

What would one expect them to say, global warming is a hoax? These experts say what they are paid to say and receive grant money to support the global warming theory.

If we look at some actual data rather than computer model data we might come to a different conclusion.

For example, four of the last five historical crests on the Ohio River at Golconda occurred prior to 1951 with the record being the flood of 1937 at 62.60 feet. Likewise three of the last five historical crests at Cairo occurred prior to 1951.

All run off water in the entire Midwest passes through Golconda and Cairo and the actual data shows there was more major flooding prior to the use of fossil fuels than afterward.

The experts say that climate change causes drought, but again, look at the actual data.

The record low at Golconda was on Jan. 1, 1900, at 0.0 feet. The five historical lows at Cairo were all prior to 1897.

Gauge datum at Smithland Lock and Dam is 29.6 feet and has not been below 29.0 feet since it was completed in 1979. The amount of water passing through the Ohio River remains the same year after year.

The records maintained by NOAA do not support the theory that human activity causes flooding or drought; to the contrary we prevent it through the use of farm ponds, city lakes, water shed lakes, flood control lakes like Rend Lake, and hydro power dams like Kentucky Dam and Lake.

The experts say that human activity causes drought. If this were true then we would expect shortages of food caused by crop failures, but the opposite is true. Crop yields in Union County and throughout the world have dramatically increased since fossil fuels have been widely used. Farmers are producing more food on less acreage than ever before.

This whole idea that human activity causes flooding, drought, tornados and hurricanes makes no sense at all and is nothing more than a hoax.
