Now, the work begins

The 2010 election campaign has come to an end. The winners will take office soon. The losers just might start gearing up for the next election.

In the meantime, the hard work begins. Those who were elected on Tuesday face some very tough challenges, from Jonesboro to Springfield and all the way to Washington, D.C.

Perhaps it was significant, at least at the county level, that the three members of the Union County Board of Commissioners were spending their time working on a new budget. They are struggling with how to make limited resources do as many things as possible.

So it will be for the winners of the 2010 election. They will come into office facing some tough challenges in a sometimes very harsh world.

Hopefully, those who were candidates and now will be officeholders will put the acrimony of the campaign behind them and work for the good of the people, from the courthouse in Jonesboro to The White House in Washington, D.C. We can only hope
