Ann L. Michels
Ann L. Michels, 97, of Anna, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2019, at Union County Hospital Long Term Care in Anna.
She was born on Feb. 21, 1921, in Anna, the daughter of August and Hedwig Pickle Bruchhauser.
She married Elbert O. Michels on June 5, 1941. He preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1991.
She is survived by her daughter Janice Stephens and friend (Bill Adams) of Crestview, Fla.; a son James Michels of Ocala, Fla.; a daughter Cathy (Jerry) Dillow of Jonesboro; grandchildren Lindsey (Dustin) Poole of New Concord, Ky., and Laura Ann (Kevin) Pingel of Cape Girardeau; six great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Hedwig Pickle Bruchhauser; her husband, Elbert O. Michels; a great-granddaughter, Reece LeeAnn Pingel; a brother William “Bill” Bruchhauser; and infant sisters Anna W. and Ethel H. Bruchhauser.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna for 80 years, and helped with the LWML organization.
Her mother had played the pump organ at the church, but passed the responsibility to Ann when a new pump organ was purchased. She continued to play the pump organ for the church for 50 years.
She lived in Anna for most of her life and was actively involved in several community organizations, including working with the Union County Red Cross and the Anna Chamber of Commerce.
Her family owned and operated Phoenix Flour Mills, which was an active local industry for much of the 20th century.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna, with Pastor Tim Weiser officiating. Interment will be in the Anna City Cemetery.
Friends can call from 11:30 a.m. until the service hour at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Anna.
