Anna Jean “Ann” Russell

Anna Jean “Ann” Russell, 90, of Mounds, Ill. passed away at 8:37 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, 2025, at her residence.

She was born Nov. 4, 1934, in Cairo, Ill. daughter to the late John Thomas and Mary Alma (Green) Sutterfield. 

On Nov. 6, 1952 she married Jimmie Dale Russell of Cairo, Ill. 

She was a secretary for M Snoring Comp in Cairo, Ill. and retired church secretary and member of the former First Southern Baptist Church in Cairo, Ill. 

She received her Associate’s Degree from Shawnee Community College.

Ann became a Christian when she was 21. She was a Sunday school teacher for years and GA & Acteen Leader at church. She enjoyed painting. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas and Mary Alma Sutterfield; her husband of 54 years, Jimmie Dale Russell; her siblings, Odell Sutterfield, Bill Sutterfield, Audrey “Bud” Sutterfield, Thomas Sutterfield, Velvia Fields, Zelma Sasseen and Amanda “Mandy” Sasseen. 

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Melinda and Mike Warren; her grandson, Michael Russell Warren; her sisters, Linda Knipe and Sharon Gazaway; other relatives and friends. 

Funeral services were held on Aug. 28, 2025. Pastor Mike Sharp officiated. Interment  followed in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, Ill.
