Beverly Scherer

Beverly Scherer, age 85, of Anna, passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026 at Metropolis Rehab and Health Center in Metropolis, Ill.

She was born on March 6, 1940 to William and Victoria (Wojtkiewicz) Kraft in Chicago, Ill. 

On Aug. 19, 1961, she married Francis Scherer and the have spent over 64 years together.

Beverly worked as a Registered Nurse at Union County Hospital and then at Choate Mental Health. 

She loved crafting, painting, photography, and quilting. Beverly was a long-time active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. 

She was a loving wife and mother, and grandmother. In her younger days, she was an avid equestrian and took many horses to shows.

Survivors include her husband, Francis; children, Mark (Charlotte) Scherer, Jeff (Lisa) Scherer; Joan Morgan (Chuck Hunsinger), Jim (Diana) Scherer, Rebecca Elzarad, and Daniel (Veronika) Scherer; grandchildren, Amanda (Kyle) Hays, Kalynn (Nathan) Albright, Sydney (Steve) Vasicek, Naser Elzarad (Grayson Longyear), Eli Scherer, Aliya Elzarad, Francesca Scherer, Angelika Scherer, Mark Stankov, Aubre Jean, Harley (Josh) Wolfe, and Josh Kelley; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Kraft; and her beloved dog, Emily.

Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Karen; son-in-law, Ayad Elzarad; sister, Barbara Ruppe; and brother, Geary Kraft.

A Funeral Mass was held on Monday, Feb. 9 with Celebrant Father Uriel Salamanca at St. Mary Catholic Church in Anna.

Interment will follow the mass at Anna City Cemetery in Anna.
