Carl Edward “Eddie” Mixen

Carl Edward “Eddie” Mixen, age 58, of Jonesboro, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2025 at Deaconess Heartland Medical Center in Marion, Ill. surrounded by his family.

He was born on Nov. 9, 1966 to Bobby Lee and Lydia Joan (Dirden) Mixen in Cape Girardeau, Mo.

Eddie was a 1984 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. 

On Nov. 21,1992, he married Mary Marie Stevson and they shared over 32 years together.

He retired from District #37 as a custodian in 2018 after previously being employed at Transcraft. 

During this time, he served as a coach spanning over a decade which touched the lives of many, coaching numerous youth sports, but knew his passion lay in football, having spent all of those years in the Jr. Wildcat program and volunteering in the booth to maintain the clock and keep score. 

Eddie once held the record for the longest punt in a state title game, having come in 1983 and was a Moons Mullins Award winner.

Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Ryan Mixen and Austin Mixen; sister, Carla (Mike) Cremeens; nephew, Brayden Cremeens; two aunts, Janet Mixen and Margie Mixen; along with numerous cousins and in-laws.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his in-laws, Lynn and Paul Steveson.

Funeral Services were held on Monday, Sept. 22, with Rev. Mark Goins officiating at Crain Funeral Home in Anna. 

An inurnment will be held at a later date at McGinnis Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be made to Crain Funeral Home to help offset expenses.

The cremation of Carl Edward “Eddie” Mixen will be personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna, Illinois is in charge of arrangements.
