Carolyn ‘Dude’ Green
Carolyn “Dude” Green, 85, of Jonesboro, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2022, at Hillview Healthcare in Vienna.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1936, in Oklahoma City, Okla., the daughter of Homer and Nancy Jane Ingram Stewart.
She married Billy Joe Mays in 1954. He preceded her in death in 1977. She later married Rev. Gerald Green on Aug. 6, 1981. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2000.
She is survived by her two sons, Steve (Michelle) Mayes of Jonesboro and Billy (Kristie) Mayes of Oklahoma City, Okla.; grandchildren Sarah Bennett, Taylor Mayes, Kylie Everhart, JoLeesa Mayberry, Jason Ozwalt, Alisha Mayes, Chad Mayes and Tommy Jennings; 20 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Billy Joe Mayes and Rev. Gerald Green; siblings Leamon Stewart, twin brother Carroll Stewart, Douglas Stewart and Mary Belle Heck.
Mrs. Green received her LPN license and later her RN and worked as a consultant for various nursing homes.
She loved the Lord and his people and was a devoted Christian woman. She attended Southside Church for many years.
After she and Gerald married they traveled the world preaching, teaching and building several churches in foreign countries. She and Gerald held many revivals across the country.
She taught children’s church and enjoyed doing the puppets ministry with the children. After moving to Southern Illinois, she joined the Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Green was very proud of her Choctaw heritage. She loved spending time with her family, watching her grandchildren’s sporting events, going fishing and playing card games.
Funeral services were at 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, at Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle in Jonesboro, with the Rev. Geoff Bond officiating.
Interment was in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Mo., on Tuesday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m.
Memorials can be made to the children’s church at the Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle.
