David 'Donnie' Sheffer

David “Donnie” Sheffer, 80, of Olmsted, died Thursday, June 24, 2021, at Metropolis Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Metropolis.

The youngest of four children, he was born on Oct. 13, 1940, in Olmsted, the son of Lauden Hurst and Evangeline Augustus Adams Sheffer.

He was a proud member of the IUOE Local 318 for over 55 years. Mr. Sheffer was a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of Caledonia Church.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his great-grandson, Jaxen Charles Sheffer; brothers-in-law George Taylor and Kevin Williams; and nephews Michael Anderson and Dennis Taylor.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Sherry Sheffer; children Lisa (Danny) Taylor, David (Belinda) Sheffer, Trent (Briana) Sheffer and Adrienne Sheffer; grandchildren Adam (Molly) Windings, Lauren Windings and Dustin (Loura) Sheffer; six great-grandchildren; a brother, James Robert (Glenda) Sheffer; sisters Mary Taylor and Ruth (Earl) Myhre; a brother-in-law, Travis (Janet) Rose Jr.; sisters-in-law Diana (Gene) Edwards and Glenda Williams; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services for Donnie Sheffer were at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 27, at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge. The Rev. Gene Edwards officiated.

Interment followed in the Masonic Cemetery in Olmsted.
