David E. Grey

David E. Grey, age 65 years, a resident of Union County Illinois, passed away Thursday morning, March 19, 2026, in Anna, Ill.

David was born Feb. 27, 1961 in Anna, Ill. He was the son of Beryl Grey and Fern (Foster) Grey.

On April 5, 1996, David was united in marriage to Gena T. Glasford at the Anna Heights Baptist Church. She survives.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by: 2 daughters – Isabella Gia Louisa Grey and Poppi Berylin Grey; a brother – William R. (Peggy) Grey of Dover, Del.; 2 sisters – Janice Grey and Pam Grey-Bartels (Frank) Routh all of Marion, N.C.; as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by a brother – Stephen M. Grey.

David was a 1978 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School and attended Shawnee Community College at Ullin, Ill.

David was employed as a mechanic by Florsheim Shoe Company at the Anna manufacturing plant.

David enjoyed nature and outdoor activities, such as motorcycling, water skiing, and camping. 

He is fondly remembered for his love of family and his devotion to them. David had a heart of gold covered with a “fake” tough exterior but was, in reality, a marshmallow to those who knew him best. 

David loved music, singing and dancing around the kitchen with his beloved family. He enjoyed talking and engaging in conversation. He studied science so that he might be conversant on a number of scientific topics.

Above all, David loved God. He was a member of the Anna Heights Baptist Church.

In David’s words, “keep the fork, something better is coming!”

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 25, 2026, at Anna Heights Baptist Church, 100 Turner Avenue, Anna, Ill. Pastor Darryl Williams and Pastor Bobby Richardson officiated.

Interment will be in the Alto Pass Cemetery.
