Deanie Heern

Deanie Heern, age 86 of Makanda, passed away Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 at her home. 

She was born March 4, 1939 in Carbondale, the daughter of Charles Stanley and Ida Louise (Canada) Nance. 

She married Francis Edward Heern on March 10, 1956. Together they shared fifty-six years of marriage before his passing on May 24, 2012.

Deanie leaves behind a wonderful loving family that will miss her dearly, her two daughters, Donna Bennett, Linda Diane and husband Greg Glasford; son, Mark and wife Jayne Heern all of Carbondale; three grandchildren, Crystal and husband Jon Cooper, Cody Heern, Brittany and husband Chris Vaughn; ten great-grandchildren, Tera and Lane Cooper, Mark L., Chase and Macey Heern, Henley, Lucas, Nolan and Rosalie Vaughn, Jade Nicole Bennett; two great-great grandchildren, Skylar Lynn and Jonathon Levi; two sisters in law, Linda Nance of Cobden and Virginia Waddingon of Carbondale; numerous nieces and nephews, other extended family and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ed Heern; brother, Jim and wife Mae Nance, Bobby Nance, Kenneth “K.O.” and wife Barbara Nance, Roscoe Nance.

Deanie was a member of the Makanda Baptist Church. She was retired from Com-Pac where she worked thirty-six years. Deanie was a hard worker, whether it was at her job or at home, things were done right. 

She was strong-willed and had a heart of gold, she was the cornerstone of her family.

Deanie was an avid outdoorswoman, horseback riding, camping, hunting for mushrooms or mowing the lawn, she loved to be outdoors. She was a phenomenal cook and quilter, her appreciation for handmade gifts made every occasion special. 

Deanie’s philosophy was simple, treat everyone like you would want to be treated.

Funeral services were on Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2025 at the Makanda Baptist Church with Dennis Nance officiating. 

Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery in Makanda. 

Memorials are preferred to the Makanda Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the church and the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home.
