Donald Edward Thady

Donald Edward Thady, 95, of Jonesboro, died Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. 

He was born on July 23, 1929, in Morgan County, the son of Roy Louis and Lois Evelyn Sawyer Thady. 

He married Joy Elaine Irlam on Dec. 12, 1950, in Piggott, Ark.

Mr. Thady is survived by his wife, Joy Elaine Thady of Jonesboro; two children, Kathy Sue (Steven) VanValKenburgh and Randall Jay Thady (Dale Marie); one grandchild, Evan Paige (Jefferson) Chastain; two great-grandchildren, Ellyette and Julia Kate; other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald Steven Thady; siblings; and one grandchild.

Mr. Thady served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired State Trooper for the Illinois State Police after 28 years of service. He was a lifetime member of Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna. 

Graveside funeral services were at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Jonesboro Cemetery, with Mark Mattheis officiating. Interment immediately followed.  

Graveside military honors were conducted by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard military funeral honor team of Marion.
