Grace Elder Garner
Grace Elder Garner, 95, of Cobden, died Saturday, Nov. 27, 2021, in Anna.
She was born on Jan. 2, 1926, in Makanda, the daughter of David S. and Clara Robertson Elder.
She married Dorris Garner on Nov. 16, 1946, in Cobden. He preceded her in death on March 14, 2010.
She is survived by her children, Roger (Sandy) Garner of Buncombe, Donna (Richard) Black of Cobden and Steve (Tina) Garner of Metropolis; her grandchildren, Tami Ury, Rick Garner, Emily (Alex) Richbourg and Sarah (Justin) Carr; great-grandchildren Presli and Grayson Garner, Rowan and Vincent Richbourg and Debbie Carr; two brothers, David (Tana) Elder of Petersburg and Ray (Mary) Elder of Mattoon; a sister-in-law, Chris Elder of Cobden; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Kay Ann Garner; a grandson, Jonathan Laster; her parents; two sisters, Katherine Ballance and her husband Gene and Rose Sellars and her husband Carl; as well as a brother, Ernest “Speedy” Elder.
Mrs. Garner was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. She enjoyed church, family, friends, fishing, camping and crafts.
Graveside funeral services for Grace Elder Garner will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the Cobden Cemetery, with Pastor Greg Schmidt officiating. Interment will follow.
Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden is in charge of arrangements.
