Gustave Athans Jr.

Gustave Athans Jr., 83, of Metropolis, died at 9:07 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2024, at Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis.

He was born on Dec. 10, 1940, in Chicago.

He had retired as a foreman for the Eagle Sheet Metal Company in Chicago. He enjoyed fishing, black and white classic movies, cooking, sports and playing cards.

He is survived by his children, Thomas and Joseph Athans, Mary (Todd) Smith, Nicholas (Linda) Athans, Antoinette (Jeff) Davault and James (Kim) Athans; grandchildren Christopher, Samantha (Riley), David and Jacob; and a sister, Sandra (Dave) Sokolowski of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Joan Athans (Rundio); his parents, Gustave Sr. and Antoinette Riske Athans; and one sister, Charlotte Athans.

There will be no services. Per the family’s request cremation has been accorded.

Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak was in charge of arrangements.
