James D. ‘Jim’ Brown
James D. “Jim” Brown, 84, of Jonesboro, died Saturday, June 1, 2024, at Southeast Mercy Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born on July 1, 1939, in Jonesboro, the son of Glenn Elmer and Ava Lucille Slicker Brown.
He married Irma Wenger Kelley on July 11, 2003, in Rapid City, S.D.
Mr. Brown served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960. His service to our country was very important to him. He enjoyed sharing stories of his military service.
He enjoyed being outdoors and going for walks. He and Irma loved to travel, taking numerous cruises with good friends.
Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Irma Brown of Jonesboro; children Jim Jr. (Tammy) Brown of Bethalto, Susan Chaar, Elisabeth (Jason) Davinroy of O’Fallon, Jonathon (Angelina) Brown of Belleville and stepson Steven L. (Diana) Kelley of Jonesboro; grandchildren Austin Brown, Conor Chaar, Jakob, Molly, Shelby, Hannah and Jessica Davinroy, Phoebe, Phoenix, Declan and Cayden Black, Anakin (Shae) Black and Joshua Kelley; and great-grandchildren Seraphine and Odelia Black. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside funeral services for James D. “Jim” Brown will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 14, at the Jonesboro Cemetery, with Pastor Perry Williams officiating.
Military funeral honors will be conducted at the cemetery by Carroll P. Foster Post No. 3455 of the VFW and the United States Marine Corps funeral honors team. Interment will follow the service in the Jonesboro Cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
