James W. Vines
James W. Vines, 76, of Iowa City, Iowa, and formerly of Union County, died Thursday, Dec. 16, 2021, in Iowa City.
Mr. Vines was born on Jan. 4, 1945, in Cairo, the son of Lloyd and Edna Landis Vines.
Jim was father to three girls who learned about the importance of family because of him. He cared for them, worried about them, prayed for them and fought for them. He instilled the importance and value of family which has carried on to his grandchildren.
Jim was a quiet and contemplative man who enjoyed making others laugh through his good-hearted nature and his practical jokes. He loved to tell a tall tale to elicit a smile and was happiest when those around him were happy.
Jim was very talented. He could build just about anything, having built two houses and remodeled many others. He could do everything from electrical to paint and enjoyed putting his talents to use.
His personality and kindness will be missed, but his legacy will be carried on by all who knew him.
Surviving him are his beloved wife of 57 years, Shirley; children Kim (Steve) Norton, Karen Shay (David) Bean and Kirsty Gardner; grandchildren Jared (Ashley) Norton, Ethan Norton, Sabrina Gardner and Elliott Gardner, great-grandson Bert Norton; a brother, Donald (Bonnie) Vines; siblings-in-law Cindy Vines and Barney Barnhart.
Sadly, Jim was preceded in death by his siblings, Virginia Adams, Lloyd Vines Jr., Joyce Barnhart, Linda Hopp and Jean Marie Vines; siblings-in-law Basil Adams and Gordon Hopp; and his parents, Lloyd and Edna.
