Jay ‘Jaybird’ Minton

Jay “Jaybird” Minton, 77, of Cobden, died at 6:04 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26, 2020, at Union County Hospital in Anna.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1943, in Anna, the son of John Raymond and Geraldine Alice Lasley Minton.  

He married Georgia Gott on July 14, 1964.

He was an outdoor enthusiast. He was known for supplying folks with cucumbers, tomatoes and watermelons. He also had a passion for propagating oak trees. He loved life, his farm and, most importantly, his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Georgia Minton of Cobden; daughter Sally Ann (Floyd) Cash of Grand Chain; sons Bradley Jay Minton of McAllen, Texas, and John Raymond (Duygu) Minton of Augusta, Ga.; grandchildren Dustin (Elizabeth) Cash of Cobden, Erika (James) Powell of Grand Chain, Hannah Nicole Cash of Carterville, Ela and Mehmet Minton of Augusta, Ga.; seven great-grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Greta Jo Ferguson.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at the Cobden Cemetery, with Pastor Ed Falgout officiating.

Memorials can be made to the American Heart Association.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.
