Jerrie T. Clayton
Jerrie T. Clayton, 89, of Anna, died Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at Deaconess Illinois Union County Hospital in Anna.
He was born on Aug. 19, 1935, in Paragould, Ark., the son of William Everett and Pearl Smith Clayton.
He married Marie Burnley on Dec. 12, 1959. She preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 2016.
He is survived by his daughter, Ramona (Richard) Ralls; two granddaughters, Heather (Dusty) Hileman and Jessica Ralls (Ryan Tellor); great-granddaughter Gracie Hileman; siblings Louise (Art) Smith-Pender, Vurtis (Jim) Duckworth and Carolyn Bird; numerous nieces and nephews; other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marie Clayton; and siblings Viola Hankla, Loretta Harris, Geraldine Elkins and Dennis Clayton.
Mr. Clayton worked for Bunny Bread in Anna until their closure. He was a very hard-working man, and the work did not stop for him when he got home, there was always something to do.
He was an avid gardener; he would grow a bountiful crop of vegetables and gift them to anyone in need. It wasn’t unusual for you to come home and find a bag of vegetables he had left on your door.
He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing and was always available to help anyone with their projects, no matter what it was. He was a kind, caring and generous man and will be deeply missed by his family.
Funeral service were at noon Monday, Dec. 23, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Pastor Doug Bridgeman officiating. Interment was in Camp Ground Cemetery near Anna.
Memorials can be made to Shriners Hospital for Children or to Union County Animal Control.
