JoAnn M. Shaffar

JoAnn M. Shaffar, 76, of Anna, died Sunday, July 24, 2022, at Union County Hospital in Anna. 

She was born on Dec. 31, 1945, in Waukegan, the daughter of Thomas John and Angela Josephine Bockhaut Albrecht.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly Shaffar of Anna and Melissa Shaffar of Wood River; grandchildren Jessica (Eli) Good, Sophie Shaffar (Josh Valdez), Marc Shaffar (Kevin Pecor), Kat Gerharz (Rhea Siders), Zacharia Shaffar (Kiersten Niethe) and Faith Gerharz; great-grandchildren Alice, Myles, Aria, Zain, Oliver, Avery and Jace; a brother, Garon Albrecht Sr. (Arlene Zajdel); two adopted daughters, Tamara (Donald) Sherfy and Stephanie (Trent) Tollison; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark Gray; and by two brothers, Timothy and Thomas Albrecht.

She worked for 20 years as a switchboard operator for International Harvester in Libertyville. 

She was a socialite who loved to dance and sing and will always be remembered for her boisterous laugh. She loved doing puzzles and watching HGTV. 

She and her friends spent many days enjoying each other’s company, telling stories and making memories. She was a rock for so many people because of how strong and resilient of a woman she was to many.
