John Amos Cummins

John Amos Cummins, 80, of Tamms, and formerly of Cairo, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2018, at his home.

He was born on July 30, 1938, in Metropolis, the son of Louis and Hillary Brown Cummins. 

He married Kay Higginbotham and they celebrated over 30 years together.  She preceded him in death on March 12, 2000.

He graduated from Cairo High School in 1956.  He retired as a fleet mate with a towing company in Thibodaux, La. He enjoyed spending time with his furry friend, Harley.

Survivors include a sister, Mary Ann Dillow of Tamms; nephews John L. (Angela) Cummins of Carrier Mills, Paul Cummins of Harrisburg, Rock Tucker of Tamms, Amos (Candy) Tucker of Olive Branch and Donnie (Kristie) Tucker of Olive Branch; a niece, Tina (“Pinkie”) Hale of McClure; a half-brother, Jerry (Gloria) Cummins of Creal Springs; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Hillary Cummins; his stepfather (dad), John Armstrong; his wife, Kay Cummins; a son, John Paul Cummins; a brother, Robert Louis Cummins;  and sister, Janice Cox.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home, with Rev. Larry Buckles officiating. Interment will follow in Anderson-Boaz Cemetery.
