John W. Lehr
John W. Lehr, 60, passed away unexpectedly on Oct. 12, 2024.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1964, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Robert P. Lehr Jr. and Dorothy J. Beyler.
He was a proud resident of Cobden, Illinois, and a 1982 graduate of Cobden High School. He attended SEMO College before starting his career at Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center in Anna from 1985 until his retirement in 2016.
John was the coolest guy. He was a father and husband who worked hard to provide and care for those he loved. John taught his children to be confident, caring and the value of hard work. He cherished his wife.
He was genuine and kind, never conforming. He was trusting and giving. His home was open to everyone he loved and he was as quick to help a stranger as he was to help a friend.
His death is a profound loss in the lives of those who knew him. A man who truly loved life and will be missed by many.
John’s loving spirit is carried on by his wife, Cheryl Lehr; his children, Jessica (Jeremy) Oakley, John Kaleb Lehr from his marriage to Tracy Lehr; step-daughter Brittany Howell and grandchildren, Colin Oakley, Jeffery and Reece Lence; parents Robert P. (Elisabeth) Lehr Jr. and Dorothy Beyler; an older brother, Tex (Gwen) Lehr; a niece, Jenna Lehr; and nephew, Rob (Amanda) Lehr.
Family, friends and others are invited to Fuzzy’s in Cobden, Illinois, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, to reminisce and honor the life of John W. Lehr.
