Justine Dickerson
Justine Dickerson, 93, of Marion, and formerly of Ullin, was promoted to heaven, after passing away Saturday evening, April 15, 2023, at the home of Bob and Robin Dickerson in Marion.
She was born on Saturday, June 1, 1929, in Balcom, the daughter of Harold and Arietta Parker Kerr. She later grew up in Tamms, and attended Tamms Community High School.
While in school, she met and married Clinton Eugene Dickerson on Aug. 25, 1946, at the farm home of her parents in Tamms, by a Baptist minister, the Rev. Clarence Bridges, of Elco.
Her husband, Clinton, at the age of 90, preceded her in death on Sept. 30, 2019, when he passed away in the early morning hours by her side in their apartment at the Parkway Estates of Liberty Village in Marion. They were married for over 73 years.
She supported her husband as he became active in the auto sales field in 1946 with his father, J.P. Dickerson and R.L. Cerny of Cairo. Later, he and his father sold to Cerny and they, along with a brother, Richard Dickerson, purchased a dealership formerly known as Wilkins Chevrolet Sales in Ullin, in 1956. A new dealership was formed and known as Dickerson Chevrolet.
On June 10, 1961, J.P. Dickerson passed away, leaving the two sons as partners in the business, which continued until their retirement in 1997 after 40 years in business.
Mrs. Dickerson took care of the home front, raising three children right across the street from the dealership and served as an advisor and encourager to her husband throughout his years in business.
She had many varied interests in her lifetime. Besides being a wonderful mother, she worked with Royal Neighbors Insurance and in the 1970s she became a licensed daycare provider for children in her home. She continued her career taking care of children well into her mid-80s.
She was a wonderful cook, loved to do embroidery, enjoyed making quilts and was an avid reader.
Justine and Clinton were faithful members of the First Baptist Church of Ullin for many years. She was a faithful worker in the nursery of the church. She blessed many children through the years with love and stories about Jesus and other characters in the Bible.
After she had a serious heart attack in the fall of 2015, Justine and Clinton decided to move to Liberty Estates retirement facility in Marion. While in Marion, they both transferred their membership to the First Baptist Church of Marion where their son, Bob, is the senior pastor.
She is survived by one daughter, Jane Frizzell and husband, Russell of Ullin; two sons, Robert Dickerson and wife Robin of Marion and Thomas Dickerson and wife, Kerry of Quincy.
She is also survived by seven grandchildren, William Frizzell and wife Paula of Louisville, Ky.; Timothy Frizzell and wife Charity of Ullin; Joshua Dickerson and wife Pamela of Edwardsville; Lucas Dickerson and wife Mami from Takatsuki, Japan; Nathan Dickerson and wife Stephanie of St. Charles, Mo.; Kory Bradshaw and husband Brian of Quincy; and Kristen and husband Cory of Quincy. She is survived by 17 great-grandchildren and one brother, Alan Kerr and wife, Nancy from Thebes.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and by one son who lived a day after birth, Gary Wayne Dickerson, on Feb. 21, 1954.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin, with the Rev. Bob Dickerson officiating.
Interment to follow in St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola.
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Ullin.
