LaVerne Thompson

LaVerne Thompson, 86, of Columbia, and formerly of Olive Branch, died Saturday, Feb. 17, 2024, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis.

She was born on June 6, 1937, in Alexander County, the daughter of James B. and Opal Grant Wilson.  

She married Harold Thompson on May 29, 1954. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2013.

Mrs. Thompson was a full-time wife and mother. She attended Sandy Creek Baptist Church.

Survivors include her sons, Allen (Diane) Thompson, Brian (Jeannie) Thompson and Rodney (Beth) Thompson; nine grandchildren, Tiffany, Whitney, Ashley, Josh, Brooke, Mason, Morgan, Brad and Chad; several great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Audrey Holland; nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; daughter-in-law Christe Thompson; grandson Dustin Thompson; and sisters Dimple Honey Campbell, Geneva Harvell, Virginia Goddard, Patsy Brown and Brenda Sue Wilson.

Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with Pastor Scott Sharp officiating. Burial was at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thebes.

Memorials can be made to Mt. Zion Cemetery and will be accepted at the funeral home.
