Lillian Bernett Cerney

Lillian Bernett Cerney, 94, of Jonesboro, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 2021, at Hillview Nursing Home in Vienna. 

She was born on April 14, 1926, the daughter of George and Genie Hileman Harvel in Mill Creek. 

She married Truman Cerney on Nov. 10, 1945, in Murphysboro.  He preceded her in death on Dec. 9, 1998.

She was a graduate of the Anna-Jonesboro Community High School Class of 1944. She was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro. 

She is survived by her son, John Cerney of Ellensburg, Wash.; daughter Linda Kaas of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren John (Loriann) Kaas of Chatham, N.J., and Beth Kaas of Tampa, Fla.; great-grandchildren Nicholas Kaas and Gabriel Kaas; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Truman Cerney; and brother and sister-in-law George and June Harvel.

A private funeral service was held in the St. John’s Cemetery near Dongola. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. 

Memorials can be made to Salem Lutheran Church in Jonesboro or to St. John’s Cemetery. Envelopes will be made available at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
