Lloyd “Dean” Newman

Lloyd “Dean” Newman

Lloyd “Dean” Newman, 77, of Anna passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale surrounded by family.

He was born in Anna on Nov. 14, 1948 to Archie Lloyd Newman and Ruth Lucille (Alger) Newman. He married Linda Faye Womack on Dec. 14, 1968.

Dean is survived by his wife of 57 years, Linda Newman; two sons, Heath (Holly) Newman of Anna and Dusty Newman of Anna; two granddaughters, Dustee Brooke Newman and Lila Ann Newman; two sisters, Ruth Ann (Donnie) Russell of Mission, Texas and Linda Lee Hine of Murphysboro, Ill.; sister-in-law, Royce Womack of Bloomington, Ill.; 7 nieces, 1 nephew and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, John “Sunny” Newman, and his beloved dog, Maverick. Dean was a man of many trades, just like his father, but was first a husband, father and pawpaw to those he loved.

He was a truck driver, business owner, cattle farmer and retired from Local 318 as a heavy equipment operator for the State of Illinois.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed riding horses, riding motorcycles on small vacations with his wife and sons, and was, reportedly, an amazing dancer and roller skater.

In his later years, he and Linda traveled through the southern states in their fifth-wheel camper. They eventually bought a place in Mission, Texas and became Winter Texans.

Dean loved spending time with his family, solving all the world’s problems with the early morning FS crew, getting his daily wisdom from the coffee shop, and he especially enjoyed taking his granddaughters on rides around the farm on the John Deere gator.

He loved the time he spent with his boys, working on John Deere tractors, cattle farming, hay making, and row cropping.

Dean was a member of Big Creek Baptist Church in Anna. Old Maverick has been waiting patiently at the gates of Heaven to be reunited with his master.

Funeral services for Lloyd Dean Newman were held on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026 at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Jonesboro with Bro. Lonnie Lewis officiating.

Memorial Contributions can be made to Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge #1641. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.

The family of Dean Newman would like to give thanks to the doctors, respiratory specialists and nurses at SIH Carbondale, Deaconess Medical Center Anna and SIH Herrin for the care they showed Dean in the last 7 weeks.
