Lois Ann Benson nee Carter

Lois Ann Benson née Carter, 86, of Anna, and formerly of St. Louis, died at her residence on Oct. 2, 2024.

She was born on Sept. 14, 1938, the daughter of Dennis Franklin and Neva Dora Earnhart Carter. 

On July 18, 1959, she married August F. Benson; they spent 51 years together until his passing in February of 2011.

She was a 1956 graduate of Anna-Jonesboro Community High School. She retired from Laclede Gas Co. in St. Louis. 

She was a member for many years of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She was an avid reader and in her younger days, she enjoyed bowling and softball. She was always ready to tell or hear a good joke or story. All of her nieces and nephews admired her as the “special aunt.” 

She is survived by her sons, Mark (Tina Hayes) Benson and Matthew Benson; granddaughters Vera Hayes and Olivia Benson; nieces and nephews Beverly Bolanowski, Rhen Benson, Linda Wilson and Amanda (Matthew) Endrizzi; and sisters-in-law Betty Carter and Barbara Adams. 

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, J.D. Carter.

Funeral services for Lois Ann Benson nee Carter were at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro, with Lonnie Lewis officiating. 

Interment followed the funeral service at Anna City Cemetery. Memorials can be made to McGinnis Cemetery.
