Lorraine Benner

Lorraine Benner, 91, of Makanda, died Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 20, 1932, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Susan Parsons.

She is survived by her long-time companion, Allan Stuck; son Thomas Benner of Austin, Texas, daughter Sue Benner of Makanda and son John (Linda) Benner of Naperville; grandchildren Megan (Jared) Schmitt, Jesse (Sindi) Meyer, Amy Benner and Kendra Benner; a sister, Marilyn Proctor; and many great-grandchildren and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Benner; a son, Michael and a daughter, Patricia; her brothers, Don and Ed Parsons; and a sister, Carol Sue Crook.

A Celebration of Life Service was held Friday, Sept. 29, at Meredith Funeral Home in Carbondale.  For those who were unable to attend the service, it is available on the funeral home website at www.meredithfh.com.  

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date in Dubuque, Iowa.
