Martha A. Chapman-Mayer

Martha A. Chapman-Mayer, age 78 of Murphysboro, passed away, Monday Aug. 4, 2025 at Manor Court. 

She was born Nov. 5, 1945 in Alto Pass, the daughter of Pearl and Opal (Brandon) Hagler. She lived and grew up on a small farm in Alto Pass and graduated from Alto Pass High School in 1964.

Martha is survived by her loving son, Chris Chapman of Cobden; stepchildren, Joseph Jr. and wife Christy Mayer, Tim and wife Gail Mayer, Bill and wife Kim Mayer; grandchildren, Dawn and husband Ryan Cerar, Briese and husband Manzell Henry, J.C. and wife Katie Chapman, Ben and wife Hannah Mayer, Kaitlyn and husband James Kallianis, Nick Mayer, Wyatt and wife Hallie Mayer, Becca and husband Keith Galbraith; great-grandchildren, Abigail and Anzleigh Cerar, Zidane and Azaela Henry, Scarlett Mayer; twins, Fallon and Tatum Chapman; sister, Linda McKinstry; brothers in law, Wayne Moore, George and wife Jana Chapman; numerous nieces and nephews; close friends; and of course all her church family. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, John F. Chapman; husband, Joseph E. Mayer; daughter in law, Andria Chapman; and sister, Carolyn Moore.

Martha was a daddy’s girl, she loved being with her father. She helped him with chores around the farm, went hunting and learned how to play basketball and softball. 

Her two older sisters helped their mother and everyone working together always got the job done.

Martha was the office manager for Dr. Michael Treece at his Murphysboro practice. She loved working with him and got to know many of the patients as family. She was always there to help however she could.

Martha was a member of Dutch Ridge Baptist Church in her youth. Later she became a member of the First Baptist Church in Alto Pass. Her church family was very important to her, she was a prayer warrior.

A celebration of Martha’s life will be at 12 noon on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025 at the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Cobden with Rev. Danny Miller officiating. 

Interment will follow at the Alto Pass Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be after 10 a.m. and until the service hour at 12 noon on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2025 at the funeral home.
