Mary Ellen Wood

Mary Ellen Wood, 80, of Ullin, died at 6:05 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2024, at the Southgate Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis. She was born on Feb. 27, 1944, in Ullin.

She was a graduate of Century High School in Ullin. She had worked several years for the Doors Program in Anna. She loved all of her family, but especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two sons, Timmy McHarry of Ullin and George Wood of Joppa; one daughter, Glenda Jett of Metropolis; five brothers and sisters, Evelyn Rarick of Ullin, Roy McHarry (Shirley)of Ullin, David McHarry (Pam) of Olmsted, Terry Brindley (Chuck) of Ullin and Sarah Petree (Jeff) of Romulus, Mich.; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Wood; a daughter, Melissa Birdwell; her parents, Ed and Edna Melvin McHarry; two brothers, Bud and Jake McHarry; and one sister, Shirley Rhodes.

Memorial services honoring the life of Mary Ellen Wood were at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Trinity Assembly of God Church in Olive Branch. Pastor Stephen Clardy officiated.

Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak was in charge of arrangements.
