Maxine Howerton

Maxine Howerton, 76, of Buncombe, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2022, at Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind., with family by her side. 

She was born on Sept. 14, 1945, in Cobden, the daughter of Herman O’Daniell and Doris Cast O’Daniell.  

She graduated in the Cobden Community High School class of 1963. 

She married Gary C Howerton. They recently celebrated their 57th anniversary. 

Mrs. Howerton is survived by her husband, Gary; daughters, Angela Pearson of Vienna and Lisa Howerton of Buncombe; a son, Gary S. Howerton of Buncombe; five grandchildren, Charity Yates, Meghan Treece, Cara Howerton, Casey Howerton and Ethan Howerton; five great-grandchildren, Conner Schroeder, Asher Thompson, Zaeydyn Freeman, Zy’yah Freeman and Zahir Freeman; and many nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a brother.

Mrs. Howerton was a full-time housewife, mother and grandmother. She loved cooking and having her family around her.  She was always checking on everyone and helping whomever she could. 

A memorial service was held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.

Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro was in charge of arrangements.
