Oralee Broussard Poteet

Oralee Broussard Poteet, 78, died on May 15, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. at Union County Hospital in Anna.  

She was born on July 18, 1943, the daughter of Oralee Simon Broussard and Vera Dunlap Broussard.

She spent her childhood between Florida and Louisiana.  She met and married Robert Poteet.  They were married nearly 55 years.

The Poteets moved to Cape Girardeau from San Antonio, Texas, in the late 1980s. Robert taught at Southeast Missouri State University, while Oralee worked as a counselor and earned her master’s degree.

Both Oralee and Robert loved animals. They bought some land in 1993 in Illinois and built a home.  Oralee brought one horse from Texas and bought more during their time on the farm.

Among their animals were many cats and dogs.  Oralee loved Airedales.  She spent her time away from work taking horse lessons, writing short stories and traveling with her friends.

She leaves a sister-in law, a brother-in-law, a few distant cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved Robert in 2022.

Her friends thank the staff who cared for her at Integrity Nursing Home at Cobden and at Union County Hospital.

Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau is in charge of her cremation. Interment will be decided at a later date.
