Paul M. Honer

Paul M. Honer, 82, of Aviston, was born on June 22, 1941, in Belleville. He died Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at Breese Nursing Home in Breese.

Mr. Honer worked as a federal and State of Illinois meat inspector for over 30 years. During his inspections, he enjoyed going to all the local meat markets and making connections with all the employees. 

He was a lifetime member of the American Paint Horse Association. He was a former member of the American Quarter Horse Association, the American Rabbit Breeders Association and the Cowboy Reunion Club. 

He had a love for animals which came from his grandfather, Walter Hoehner, who was the first veterinarian in Belleville. 

He loved going on road trips, especially when he was headed to the Will Rogers Coliseum in Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond J. and Alleene E., nee Hoehner, Honer.

Surviving are his five children, Rhonda M. (Michael) Bauer, Todd A. (Jennifer) Honer, Kelly S. (Keith) Lampe, Austin P. (Lorna) Honer and Dawn L. Honer; seven grandchildren, Matthew, Stephanie, Ashley, Abby, Niki, Sami and Zach; five great-grandchildren, Landon, Ean, Emma, Owen and Oliver; one brother, Allen Ray Honer; and a former sister-in-law, Mary, nee Kaiser, Brown.

The family thanked St. Joseph Hospital in Breese and Breese Nursing Home for their kindness and care for Paul.

Memorials can be made to St. Joseph Hospital in Breese, to Breese Nursing Home’s activity department or to the Chakota Therapeutic Riding Center.

Visitation was from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home in Belleville, which was in charge of arrangements.
