Rev. Lacie Dean Betts

Rev. Lacie Dean Betts, 83, of Tamms, died on March 7, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was a minister for many years and pastored several churches in Southern Illinois. He retired from the Department of Transportation.  

He and his wife, Mary, ran the Happy Helpers Pantry for years.  

He enjoyed spending time with his family. He also enjoyed beekeeping, quilting and farming. He enjoyed talking and visiting with everyone. He never met a stranger.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary Betts; children Sally Betts, and Jimmy (Sharyl) Betts, both of Tamms; four grandchildren, Curtis (Tommie) Goines, Kevin (Conley) Kobler, Nathan (Jill) Betts and Racheal Betts; nine great-grandchildren, Daniel, Lacie, Liam, Wyatt, Blaine, Kallie, Keegan, Kaden and Camiah; a sister, Linda (Kenneth) Lingle, of Jonesboro; and a brother-in-law, Roger Knupp.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Debra Knupp; and an infant brother, Charles Betts.

Funeral services were at 7 p.m. Monday, March 11, at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, with the Rev. Buddy Walls and the Rev. Bob Kirby officiating.

Memorials can be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
