Richard Leon Porterfield

Richard Leon Porterfield, 85, of Dongola, died Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born on Dec. 21, 1937, in Dongola, the son of Clarence and Bessie Lawrence Porterfield.

He married the love of his life, Barbara Glasford, on Nov.29, 1958. She survives.

He was a graduate of Dongola High School and was in the class of 1955. In his younger years, he attended the Church of Christ. 

He served in the U.S. Army. After leaving the military, he started working with CIPS (Ameren) and worked as a electrician until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed farming in his extra time. 

Along with his wife, he is survived by his son, Stephen (Charlotte) Porterfield; daughter Trisha Porterfield; granddaughter Danielle McKenzie (Will); grandson Gregory Porterfield; great-grandchildren McKenna McKenzie and Raelynn McKenzie; and many other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Clyde Hastings; brothers Barney Porterfield, Darrell Porterfield and Ronnie Joe Porterfield; and a sister, Carimena Capps. 

Funeral services for Richard Porterfield were held Monday, May 1, at 2 p.m. at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating.

Interment followed the funeral services at Christian Chapel Cemetery. Military rites were accorded by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post No. 3455 and the U.S. Army.
