Robert 'Bob' Chamness
Robert (Bob) L. Chamness, 80, of Anna, died peacefully at home surrounded by his family, on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018, at 1:45 a.m.
Bob was born in Anna on Feb. 14, 1938, to Frank and Eva (Kinder) Chamness.
He married Patricia L. (Pat) Rolando on July 27, 1957, in Anna. To this union three children were born, the late Mark Chamness, Beverly Chamness Tweedy and Matt Chamness.
He is survived by his children, Beverly (Rick) Tweedy, Matt ( Traci) Chamness and daughter-in-law Terri (Craig)Partridge. His grandchildren, Ricky (Alison) Tweedy, Tiffany Short (Jon Beisner), Mark (Kacey) Chamness, Mike (Kristin) Chamness, Matt (Parris Noble) Chamness, Brooke Chamness, all of Anna, and Luke Partridge, of St. Charles, Mo.; 11 great-grandchildren; and special friend, Jana Hannah of Paducah.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Mark; and brothers Fred, Doc and Larry.
In 1956, Bob began his career as an over the road truck driver. He and his wife, Pat owned and operated City Shelter Care and Village Shelter Care from 1966-1974 and City Care Center of Anna, a skilled nursing center, from 1974-1995.
In 1988, Bob and Pat along with their children, Beverly and Matt, developed Village Inn, a 16 bed facility for individuals with developmental disabilities.
In 1992, Bob and Pat joined James and JoAnn Keller in establishing the JR Centre, a developmental training and vocational center for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The JR Centre is named after co-founders James (Jim) Keller and Robert (Bob) Chamness.
In 2008, he and son Matt started Chamness Angus Farms.
Bob was a Noble of Ainad International, East St. Louis, and a member of Anna Masonic Lodge No. 520.
Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles, hunting, mowing, working with his horses and clearing out trees with his bulldozer and backhoe. He spent many hours enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna, with Bill Littrell officiating. Interment will be in the Casper Cemetery near Anna at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, the Shriners Hospital for Children or Hadley’s Haven.
