Robert Lee ‘Bobby’ Newton

Robert Lee “Bobby” Newton, 57, of rural Ozark, died at 4:45 p.m. Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at Deaconess Gateway Hospital in Newburgh, Ind.

He was born on March 10, 1967, in Metropolis, the son of William F. and Wilma J. Hines Newton.

He is survived by his mother; two children, Tara Newton of Anna and William Newport III of Peoria; his fiancé, April Calvert of Ozark; bonus children Jericka Calvert of Johnston City and Zacharia Calvert of Carterville; grandchildren Matty, Juniper, James, Jade, Randi, Milly, Jazmin and Mazelynn; his brothers, William E. (Tammy) Newton of Ozark and Steven A. (Jessica) Newton of Harrisburg; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; a bonus daughter, Emilia Grace Calvert; and his sister, Priscilla June Hill.

He attended Vienna High School. He was a lifelong semi-truck driver and shade tree mechanic. For the past nine years, he was employed as a mechanic by Hill’s Trash Service and was Tony’s “right-hand-man.”

He is remembered for his love of “tinkering.”  He was always busy working.

He was of the Christian faith.

Funeral services were at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna. Mr. Newton’s brother, William Newton, officiated. 

Burial was in Zion Cemetery, east of Ozark.
