He graduated from Anna-Jonesboro Community High School in 1966. Shortly afterwards he entered the U.S. Air Force as a jet engine mechanic. He served for four years and was honorably discharged at the rank of sergeant.

His childhood home was in Anna, where he enjoyed the outdoors, such as camping at Little Grassy Lake with his dad and go-kart racing. As a teenager, his favorite memories were of a canoe trip with the Explorer Scouts to Wisconsin and being crowned as the King of Teen Town.

While in the Air Force he was licensed to run-up and taxi the T-37 and T-38 aircraft and was awarded as the Airman of the Month.

It was during this time that he was introduced to his wife of 52 years, Deanna. They married and later moved to Texas for a job at Mack Trucks. He worked for other trucking companies and Greyhound Bus Lines.

He completed his professional career as a field technician installing fire alarm systems for Design Systems Group.

He enjoyed working his hands on countless projects. Stained glass was one of his favorites, but spending time with his children and grandchildren was his great joy. He loved the Lord, his church family and serving as a deacon at The Oaks Baptist Church.
