Steve Hafertepe
Steve Hafertepe, 62, of Cobden, died at 3:52 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
He was born on Jan. 23, 1955, in East St. Louis, the son of Bernard Alphonse and Helen Emma Tarjany Hafertepe.
He was a devoted engineer for Amtrak for 24 years and also had been conductor prior to being an engineer. He enjoyed fishing, golfing and watching sports. He had a love for music and could tell you any facts in regards to rock and roll and the blues. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his daughters, Marina (Dustin) Newberry of Cobden, and Melissa (Mike) McDonald of Ashland, Ky.; grandchildren Bradley and Devin; his mother, Helen Hafertepe of Troy; sisters Charlotte (Bob) Schultz of Anna and Tina (David) Auld of Troy; a brother, Chris (Gina) Hafertepe of Jacob; his girlfriend, Margaret Dickson; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father; and by a brother, Bernard Henry Hafertepe.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Crain Funeral Home in Anna-Jonesboro.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 25, at the funeral home, with Father Federico Higuera officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Cobden.
