Steven Ray Smith

Steven Ray Smith, age 78, of Pulaski, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at Deaconess Union County Hospital in Anna, Ill.

He was born on Sept. 10, 1947 to Pearl Smith and Mary (Wiles) Smith in Olney, Ill.

Steven was a Vietnam veteran having served in the United States Army. He went on to work on the river as a towboat captain for many years and after his retirement, he became a real estate appraiser. He owned CREA appraisals in Jonesboro. 

Steven was a life member of the Anna VFW. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and owned his own racecar.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; stepdaughter, Monica (Jeff) Holshouser; stepson, Rod (Chrissy) McIntosh; several step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte Smith; and one niece, Summer Wilson.

A private service with inurnment will be held at a later date with Rev. Mark Hasty officiating at the Mound City National Cemetery.

The cremation of Steven Ray Smith will be personally handled by the staff of Crain Funeral Home.

Crain Funeral Home in Ullin is in charge of arrangements.
