Violet Geraldine (Gerry) Soliz
Violet Geraldine (Gerry) Soliz, 92, of Karnak, was born on Sept. 11, 1930, in Sewal, Iowa, the daughter of Ralph and Verna Hickerson.
She died at 5:36 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2022, at her home, surrounded by her family.
She was a graduate of Corydon High School. She graduated at the age of 16 and earned her teaching certificate upon graduation.
She immediately began teaching school and taught for one year before marrying her high school sweetheart, Donald Bishop.
She was a devoted and loving mother to her three children: Diana Capps, Dennis Bishop and Darrell Bishop.
She retired in 1997 from working in the Print Shop at Von Maur Department Store in Davenport, Iowa.
She moved to Karnak at that time and enjoyed her retirement in Southern Illinois. She attended Belknap Pentecostal Church.
She loved spending time with her family, taking care of her flowers, playing Scrabble, working crossword puzzles, putting together jigsaw puzzles and she loved her church family and faithfully attended as long as she was able.
Survivors include her daughter, Diana Capps and husband Kenneth, of Karnak; two sons, Dennis Bishop and wife Sandi, of Davenport, Iowa, and Darrell Bishop and wife Jenny, of North Hollywood, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Dr. Tammy Capps of Karnak, Dr. Timothy (Shelly) Capps of Elizabeth City, N.C., Mychele Bishop of Bettendorf, Iowa, Amy (Aaron) Mack of Bettendorf, Iowa, Eric (Angela) Bishop of Grimes, Iowa, Gina Bishop of North Hollywood, Calif., and Michael Bishop of North Hollywood, Calif.; 10 great-grandchildren, Caleb Capps, Abigail Capps, Zachariah Capps, Brandon Bishop, Aidan Mack, Ashton Mack, Parker Bishop, Cameron Bishop, Paul Bishop and James Bishop. She is also survived by many cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Bishop, and husband Anthony Soliz.
Funeral services honoring the life of Violet Geraldine Soliz are scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 15, at Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak. The Rev. Kenneth Capps to officiate.
Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Shriver Cemetery in Wayne County, Iowa.
