William Brent Vines

William Brent Vines, 74, formerly of Mound City, passed away on June 25, 2023. 

He was born on Sept. 14, 1948, in Cairo, the son of Elmer William Vines and Lela Alene Vines. 

He spent his entire career serving the military: retired from and proudly serving in the U.S. Air Force and Department of Defense. Residing for over 40 years in the outskirts of Cambridge, England, he never gave up his American citizenship. He raised his sons there while staying rooted to his family back home in the states. 

He graduated from Meridian High School in Mounds in 1966, where he played basketball. He enjoyed sports and being outdoors, particularly fishing. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and by a sister Clara Vines (Seaton) and his wife Pat Vines. 

Survivors include his daughters, Deborah Vines and Heather Vines; his sons, William Vines and Andreas Vines; his brother, Norman Wayne Bradley (Sue) of Kansas; three sisters, Phyllis Grief (Ronnie) of LaCenter, Ky., Paula Zimmer (Dick) of Pablo, Mont., and Christal Vines of Sterling; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held in England at 11:30 a.m. on July 25 at the Cambridge Crematorian in East Chapel.
