Woodrow ‘Woody’ Paul Almon
Woodrow “Woody” Paul Almon, 76, of Marion, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2018, at 7 a.m. at his home in Marion.
He was born on June 4, 1942, in Chicago, the son of Paul Woodrow and Justine Marie Laputo Almon.
He married Margaret Nuber on March 2, 1968, in Downer’s Grove. This year, they celebrated 50 years of marriage.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, drafted in 1962 during the Vietnam War. He was stationed in Greenland.
He was the past commander of Marion American Legion Post No. 147, an avid Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed fishing.
He worked in newspaper sales, retiring from Reppert Publications.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Almon of Marion; his mother, Justine Almon of Marion; daughters Carrie Watson (Gene) of Lake of Egypt and Judy Claybrook (Patrick) of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Mackinley and Lane Claybrook of Hendersonville, Tenn.; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and by a brother, Gerald Almon.
In accordance with his wishes, he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Mitchell-Hughes Funeral Home in Marion is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
