Phillip Darrell Rothchild

Phillip Darrell Rothchild, 65, of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Cairo, Mound City, and Herrin, died November 22, 2009, in Winslow, Arizona. He was born August 7, 1944, in Cairo, the son of Willis H. and Alice Sumner Rothchild. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mound City, and the Herrin Eagles Lodge. He was a graduate with a Bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, and was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, where he attained the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was also a veteran, serving in the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his father, Willis H. Rothchild, one sister, Marcena Milligan, and one uncle, Joe Sumner.

Mr. Rothchild is survived by his mother, Alice Rothchild, of Phoenix, seven brothers and sisters, including Donna and husband Carl Thomas, of Cairo, Willis "Buddy" and wife Carol Rothchild, Jr., of Wickliffe, Kentucky, Barron and wife Alice Rothchild, of Hammond, Indiana, Deanna Rothchild Charlet, of Phoenix, Russell Rothchild, of Irvington, Illinois, Tom Rothchild, of Mesa, Arizona, and Robert Rothchild, of Phoenix; one aunt, Merle Sumner, of Metropolis, Illinois; one uncle, Asa and wife Betty Sumner, of Washington, Missouri; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives. Visitation is at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mound City, where friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until time for services Saturday, December 5.

The Funeral Mass for Mr. Rothchild will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mound City with the Rev. Fr. Jerome Fortenberry and the Rev. Fr. John Agbasiera as celebrants.

Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Mounds, Illinois, military honors offered by area veterans organizations and the United States Army. Interment will follow. At the request of the family, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Mound City in memory of Mr. Rothchild. The Barkett Funeral Home of Mound City is in charge of arrangements .
